This database can be a useful reference if you are looking to buy a touring bike, but keep
in mind that it only includes production bikes (not custom) that are marketed for touring.
Many road bikes are suitable for touring, especially light, one-two week trips. Many
mountain bikes can be converted into tour worthy steeds for a fraction of the cost of a new
touring bike. And don't forget, Thomas Stevens road across america
and around the world on a Columbia high-wheeler in 1884. So don't limit your search to the
bikes in this database -- if I tried to include every bike that you (or someone) could tour
happily on it would be unmanagable.
